I am an experienced carpenter, 13 year experienced fumigator, and now termite inspector. True, many inspectors cannot or shall I say "confuse" a Fungus infection with weathered wood. There are many different types of fungi, yet a professional will identify correctly. many times the inspector will find a lot more Fungi damage behind the surface damaged area. It is important that all parties in a home sale know what a fungus infection looks like and that they are not getting ripped off by any "Budget Company".

I have been a master home inspector for 11 years and have seen it all. I also read many blogs regarding home inspection.
This article covers many details into inspecting for wood destroying insects. Also known as WDI.
It should be said that this is not to be used as a guide for the home owner to inspect for WDI.
Always call a home inspector to check for active WDI.
